So, we are already a few weeks into the new year. How are your New Year's resolutions holding up? If you are  llike most people, you are already asking..."What resolutions?" That is because most people throw in the towel on their resolutions within the first few weeks of the year. Each year people jump into action (or say they are going to jump into action) and then end up giving up. If you have already given up here are a few questions for you and a few things you can do to get back on track.

  • Are you truly committed to that resolution?
  • Was you resultion specific or general?
  • Did you select that resolution because it is something you truly want or something someone else wants (or society wants)?
  • Are you ready and fully prepared to take on that resolution? Do you have everything you need?
  • Have you gotten someone to support you with the resolution?
  • How important is that resolution to you? your life? your health? your family?

OK, so here are some steps you can take to get back on track:

  1. Recommit to your resolution
  2. Check the language around your resolution: is it clear, specific, measureable, achievable, does it have a start and end time? Reword your resolution until it meets the above criteria
  3. Keep your resultion in a place where it is visible to you and where you will see it several times a day.
  4. Before you even begin to work on your resolution, make a list of pros and cons. What are the pros of achieving this resolution? What are the cons?
  5. Chunk your resolution. Break it down into smaller, more manageable goals and work from there.
  6. If you find yourself straying from your resolution, don't give up! Acknowledge you strayed and get back to it.
  7. Get someone to support you in achieving your goals.
